Except, I tried this and it didn't work. I chose "repeated", then "repeated stretched", then "single", then "repeated". Sometimes (when choosing "repeated" the final time) it changes from the previous setting to repeated stretched effect, sometimes it does nothing. But never does it change to just repeated non-stretched.

I do not understand your question. Could you provide an example of some kind?
(there's no difference between stretched and non-stretched as far as I can see).
The parameters are bugged, they only respond to even (or odd) changes. So you have to set each parameter twice, so to say. Probably this is why you do not see a difference. To see a difference: set to stretched, if it doesn't do anything, set it back to non-stretched, then set it to something else, then set it to stretched.
I know about the bug and it is work in progress. Sorry.
