Adobe Illustrator 7/10, Photoshop CS and Postscript (probably eps)
hi, A long story short. AI7 files aren't in PDF format and AI10 uses PDF 1.4 as native saving format. I Have also heared that Photoshop CS uses PDF 1.4 as saving format. So i looked in pstoedit program and finded out (Author pointed out) there is GPL svg output plugin. So it would be neat to have this option in inkscape but is it too much to ask for http://www.gnu.org/software/plotutils/ and pstoedit be installed to have this input?? There is also one problem in SVG because it doesn't put fill:none in style inkscape just fills everything in black:P.. I still look how good plot-svg output is but seems good enouhg to me.. Then i just have to think how to find AI7 and AI10 in ill2svg.pl;) So should we use it or not? In Gnu/Linux and *BSD (*nix) world it's easy to install but windoze is biggest problem..

Well, currently in Inkscape we can detect for these being installed, and remove options based on whether they are installed or not. So, I don't think it would be a big deal to use them.
There is also one problem in SVG because it doesn't put fill:none in style inkscape just fills everything in black:P..
Is this an SVG compliance thing, or can we fix this in Inkscape?

I think that if we continue to use pstoedit more, it might be worth starting to ship it in our Windows package... it seems useful.
Now, I'm not sure I understood your e-mail, if we used pstoedit and plotutils, could that do all of the Illustrator importing? Or just certain versions of Illustrator?

I think it's inkscape problem because if you add fill:none to there when it doesn't need filling everything looks fine.. I exam this one little bit more to I can say for sure.. this should be fixable in Inkscape.. I can provide example file if needed.

If we have pstoedit compiled with plotutils one should could import these: Adobe Illustrator 10 [PDF 1.4] Photoshop CS files [PDF 1.4] PDF 1.2/1.3/1.4 Postscript
And possibly these: EPS should work(TM) (I haven't got time to try this)
You can't import these Adobe Illustrator 7 one needs ill2svg.pl. AI7 hava totaly diffrent format that is explained in one really big PDF that I found lately from Adobe's web site..
I just couldn't make myself clear sorry, Tuukka
Are the filetypes that pstoedit can import the same as the ones it can export?
Also, I think we need to show more information for our file imports. Like if our adobe illustrator file importer only works up to AI7, then we should say AI7 Import or the like. When these import/export plugins/filters don't work as generally referred to, we look bad, right?
Thoughts?

Okay, do you want to detect this in ill2svg.pl or is there some way that we can catch it in the app? I'm guessing that all of the files use .ai right? I guess we could allow the user to choose?
