I agree that cycling between modes in a complex document isn't cool, but then I, for instance, don't use wireframe mode very often, and I'd love to be able to switch between Normal and No FIlters.
What do other people think?

I recently ran into that myself, the needing to toggle only between normal and no filters mode. So for me a configuration of what modes are enabled when toggling seems like the best solution, especially if we end up getting other modes down the road (such as no AA).

I've lately found myself wanting a keyboard shortcut for toggling filters as well, though I think it should be distinct from the one that toggles outline mode.

I seem to remember that there was the suggestion to toggle between normal mode and the most recently used "non-normal" mode. Or maybe even between the two most recently used modes. Wouldn't that suit most people's needs, since almost nobody seems to want to cycle between all available ones?

Max, I'd agree that the most flexible solution is to cycle between the two most recently used ones but I think some users might find this a little bit confusing while to toggle between the normal and the last 'non-normal' mode seems like a very good solution, at least from my perspective.
