As mentioned on jabber, i haven't even *compiled* this patch yet, let alone checked whether it fixes the test failure.

I send it now because it's bed time, and it'll take a while on this machine to compile with optimization enabled. (The test doesn't fail without optimization enabled, on my machine.)

As usual, the patch is relative to the src/ directory.
