Little mistake in the wiki regarding the font cache on Windows
Hello,
In the page:
http://www.inkscape.org/faq.php#Inkscape_does_not_see_some_of_the_fonts_.28W...
I think there is a little mistake when it says:
This was a bug in versions of Inkscape up to 0.43, caused by using an obsolete font cache. This cache is stored in the file called .fonts.cache-1. This file may be in your Windows folder, or in your Temp folder, or in "My documents" folder, or in the folder listed in the $HOME environment variable. Use file search by name to locate this file.
On my Windows XP system, the font cache is called FNTCACHE.DAT and is located in c:\windows\system32
I also have in C:\Program Files\InkscapeDev20090217\inkscape\etc\fonts fonts.conf fonts.dtd
I couldn't find a .font.cache-1 file anywhere, and all the references to it point to Linux OSs.
Could someone with editing rights edit this particular section of the FAQ? It looks like there is no section regarding the font cache for Linux, maybe that is what is missing or where the confusion lies?
Thanks :-)
As I understand it, Inkscape 0.43 did not use the system fonts cache, but its own file mentioned in the FAQ. Later versions use the system font cache, so .fonts.cache-1 doesn't exist. You're not supposed to delete your system's font cache in either circumstance. Telling where the system cache is might lead to confusion and cause people to delete their system font caches, which does nothing for this bug and may damage your system.

Hello,
Well... how many people are still using 0.43 vs. how many people have a font list problem, either on Windows or on Linux?
I really think this part of the wiki needs cleaning/rewriting. I would do it myself, but I have already too many things to edit... :-(
Also, deleting the font cache, to my knowledge, is a common fix for a lot of fonts problems, and I don't see why, if it was recommended as a workaround for 0.43, it wouldn't be still valid for 0.46 or 0.47 :-)
Anyway, after cleaning my own font cache and seeing that it's not the fix for my problem on 0.47, anyone has a workaround for https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/165665 , please? I'd be most grateful :-)
Regards!

TweakUI, from the Windows Powertoys (free from Microsoft), has the option to rebuild the font cache - it's called "Repair Font Folder". I think TweakUI is about the first thing I put on any Windows setup, although I've never had Vista.
