Hello everybody, I am an engineering student at NIEC in India .I love drawing and coding and so I wanted to make a tool/plugin for Inkscape. Here is the discription of the tool :
1.The basic idea of the tool is keep your drawing up to date in symmetry . 2.This tool will help artists make symmetrical drawings ,like they are drawing in front of a mirror/axis 3.The user can have 1 or more than 1 mirror/axis (limit to be defined) for the sketch to be duplicated on. 4.The artist will be able to draw symmetric facial images, snowflakes, kaleidoscopic patterns, characters or objects. 5.It will make existing drawings and illustrations reusable. 6.The user can describe one of the following things like the origin point where the mirror is to kept, its angle and number of mirrors/axis to be used
I came up with this idea when i was drawing snowflakes for a weather app (that i discarded) and i found out that it was quite time consuming to drawing good quality snowflakes QUICKLY.
Finally i would like to ask whether this idea is good for GSOC 2014 participation?I am really eager to participate this time.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Regards, Marakiam

This would be a very useful feature, but I think we will need a little more information on how you want to implement it. You also should submit a mockup of the proposed interface.

Hello , Thanks for considering my proposal as good enough for GSOC, i was a little scared initially to be honest. I have successfully compiled the latest built of inkscape on my Ubuntu OS . and i have also prepared a mockup of the proposed interface. Here is the link to the mockup : http://symmetry-plus.tumblr.com/ .For just a namesake , i have named the tool/plugin symmetry-plus.I would soon be sending information on how i would implement it.Thankyou for your time and please visit the mentioned blog to see the mockup.
Regards, Marakiam

Hello, Can somebody point me in the right direction on which part of the code should i concentrate on for the tool i proposed? Thankyou! On 03/13/2014 05:59 AM, maraki wrote:

I think this proposal is about support for point symmetry rather than wallpaper symmetry.
