Hi,
I've just found the sK1 Projekt: http://sk1.sourceforge.net/
It's an Skencil (aka Sketch) fork with an Corel Draw CDR file importer. I haven't tested it but it may be a nice way to convert Corel Draw files to SVG. Perhaps even someone may be interested in porting the code to Inkscape or to a lib that can be used in both programs. Maybe this is something that Scribus can use too.
Regards, Tobias
I think a CDR importer is a good extension! :-) No one comments... What the Developers think about the sK1's CDR importer?

Makes me wonder too, since they and CDR importer developers met face to face at Libre Graphics Meeting in Montreal just a month ago :)

Yes, I'm curious as well. Mental, John, Jon, Ted?
Is there stdin/stdout for sk1 CDR support?

There's no reason there couldn't be. We currently have several extensions that use that technique with Skencil. If sK1 is the maintained version of Skencil they should probably be converted also.

Absolutely. I heard throught the grapevine that the guys responsible for this CDR convertor (as well as a number of other formats) will be releasing their work appart from sK1 as a separate convertor package. It will likely be smaller and require python. Hopefully we will be able to include that with our packages and get lots of mileage out of the good work they have been doing.

Found it! Keep an eye out for the code for that converter at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/uniconvertor/

AC,
Would be really cool if we could get the secret of the format from the source. If Inkscape could import CD7+ natively without some preprocessing batch file, would be awesome. This would fit into Inkscape's model for success. Provide a function that nobody else can. This is far more profitable than imitating another program, IMHO.

Native import would be cool, but I have no intention of beign the guy to maintain a CDR input extension. I really don't think we have the right sort of manpower to do it by ourselves. If we can get on the bandwagon with these guys and ship their tool, I think we still win.
