The Inkscape 0.46 release has been tagged and a tarball is in the process of being created. The next step will be packaging and finalizing PR materials.
Thank you everyone for your hard work in producing this release.
We will be embargoing PR announcements until March 24th, to provide the Windows port with additional time to identify fixes to some critical bugs, so please hold off from publicizing this release for now.

As Bryce said, don't tell anyone that you got this e-mail!

Hello, FYI, in case anyone else is using an old version of tar... When I extracted inkscape-0.46.tar.bz2 using tar 1.13 on OS X 10.3, some files were missing or filenames truncated, namely stuff in packaging/macosx/Resources/themes/Clearlooks-Quicksilver-OSX/gtk-2.0.
I was able to work around this by extracting with tar 1.15 in macports.
I think this issue of long path names in tar was mentioned on the list before ( http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=47594AF6.9070300%40e... ), but I guess it is unresolved.

Yes, we resolved it by switching to the POSIX standard format for tar files instead of the GNU specific version. Sorry you got hit by it.

PS - For those following this at home 10.3 was released in 2003 but GNU tar released in 1.13, 1999 -- but 1.14 in 2004. Which is why they missed the POSIX standard update in 2001. Wow, I know WAY too much about tar now.

here's one patch specifically for a windows bug:

Two more Windows issues have got some patches to test: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/187290 https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/179988
Printing currently only works fully with "print as bitmap".. Print with vectors results in a tiny image. Convert texts to paths drops all text. And using opacity instead of alpha on any objects flips the coordinate system. Are all these issues Windows related?
BTW, Was there a "print with vectors" option on Windows earlier? How about disabling the vectors option for the .0 release?

on os x with a recent svn build, print as vector produces: - right sized images - correct text . when converted to paths (inside Inkscape, I don't see that option in the print dialog itself) . when one object uses opacity so I guess these are windows only indeed :/ (since I suspect printing on linux and os x to work the same, both use CUPS at the end of the day).
The problem I have though is that Inkscape systematically produces two pages: the first one with the drawing and the second one blank.

A patch has been released to fix multiple print issues on windows - see https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/179988/comments/127
I've nominated the patch for release. Do I have to do anything else with that?
There are also two patched cairo libs to stop a crash when printing radial gradients. How do we get this included in the libs?
There are a few minor issues that will have to wait for 0.46.1
Sorry if you've received a similar message twice. Just want to make sure this gets included in 0.46.
Cheers,
Rygle.
