Thanks to all the reviewers; I'm still waiting to hear, but I'll contribute work on OCAL integration even if mine is not accepted, and hopefully other extension work too. I noticed that the PSF will encourage its accepted applicants to keep a blog about their projects; Inkscape might want to do that too.

Good idea. We should be able to provide this through our wordpress blog that we use for the main news of the site. Can you support this claim Jon L.? I think best to just have the developers for SoC post to the main news page. Otherwise, maybe its time to create a planet.inkscape.org and just include the SoC and other Inkscape developers blogs to that.
What do you all think? It would probably be a good idea to get the RSS feeds from the Inkscape developers blogs anyhow, right (hint: this will make project CREATE, easier in the future as well).

I think I'd prefer some sort of aggregation rather than doing it directly on the news page. If we could give the SoC folks "sub-blogs" somehow (if desired) that would also work though.

I dunno ... how many of the developers have blogs?
You have one, I know.
So far as I know bryce doesn't, nor does Ted, nor bulia. njh had one briefly, but he gave up on it. I don't believe peter does.
ScislaC has a blog, I think.
I've got a couple, but one is mostly survey memes, and the other at the moment is looking like it'll develop into mostly movie commentary, religious essays, and a bit of Ruby stuff. Neither is frequently updated.
Anyone else with a blog?

Bryce and Ted, both have one....check: http://planet.openclipart.org

Great...

Great, another thing is that by just creating a planet.inkscape.org for blog aggregation, that will encourage other developers to create a blog, and provides yet another way to keep tabs on what the other developers are working on, and generally what "we" are all interested in...ok, I'm preaching to the choir.
Nicu, you are the planet master, what say you on creating http://planet.inkscape.org?

Sure, this is an easy task

Yes. It could -- of course -- be done through our WordPress install for the news... but as you say, it's probably better to keep them separate. We could probably provide a WordPress blog for each of the developers doing SoC though, if they wanted. Like http://blogs.inkscape.org/bill/ or something. That sound a good idea?

Yeah. Is this something we might want to do generally, or just (for now) for the SoC? If the latter, maybe e.g. http://soc.inkscape.org/bill/

Ok, how about we offer them feed aggregation through planet inkscape, and if they don't have their own blog we can offer them:
http://soc.inkscape.org/USERNAME/

I agree, but I think soc. is a bad idea:
* I wouldn't be surprised to see developers doing SoC continuing to work on Inkscape afterwards * It would in general be a nice idea to offer ALL developers the facility of an Inkscape-hosted blog, should they wish
Therefore I think blogs.inkscape.org is better, myself.

Oh, no, that is a separate project that is not ready for public release yet. (That is the one we talked about last summer Ted) I kinda don't want to talk too much about it until the planet sites are firmly established.
That CREATE project will track development blogs for many creative Open Source applications. Its not ready, obviously, for the full works and ./ yet ;)
