voting in gitlab merge request automatically subscribes to it
Hi Friends, I recently clicked the thumb up/down icon in gitlab merge request, responding to a mailing list message, which asked for a simple vote. And suddenly email is pouring in!
I finally found how to unsubscribe, but the checkbox for it is in a separate panel on the right side of the page, which scrolls separately from the main window. Since the checkbox is below the first page, and the panel scrolls separately, and the panel does not even have a scrollbar, it was hard to find. (had to zoom out)
Anyway, I've searched through all the personal settings I can find, without success. Is there some way not to subscribe to something by simply voting, and I just didn't find it?
If there's no way to change my personal settings, I wanted to ask if it would be possible to globally disable subscribing to the thing (merge request, issue, whatever) by simply voting.
Thanks, brynn
Hi Brynn,
the documentation for gitlab's notification settings is available here: https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/workflow/notifications.html
Hope that helps!

Whoa! I don't have anything like the screenshot at the top of that page. When I click on Profile, in the dropdown menu under my avatar in the top-right corner, I get this:
https://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/ss/gl1.png
Also in that dropdown menu is Settings. Here's what I get with that:
https://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/ss/gl2.png
Also in that same dropdown menu is Help. https://gitlab.com/help which I haven't found very helpful at all.
Next is Contribute to GitLab, which of course I wouldn't click on that, because I can't contribute. ....Oh, or is that for a donation (of money)? And after that, is Log Out.
I've looked at just about every button I can find on a gitlab page, and I can't find anything like that.
I never would have thought to look in the documentation in gitlab's own account for help with my profile. I thought that would be about how use the site for developing a project.
But now that I have it, I still don't know how to find what it's showing in that screenshot. I mean, that's exactly what I've been looking for. But where is it?
Sorry if I'm being dense, but I've really clicked on almost everything that would seem to make sense (and a lot of stuff that I don't understand at all). Maybe I just don't have the right permissions or something?
Thanks again, brynn

Hi Brynn,
yes, they changed their interface a bit. Seems not only our docs aren't always up-to-date ;-)
1. Click on your avatar in the top right corner 2. Select 'Settings' 3. Click on 'Notifications' button (a bell) on the left side 4. Change settings.

On the left side.... Ooohhhh, a hidden panel! Lovely!
You know why I never looked at that? I thought it was the same panel that I see when I have the Inkscape account open (with issues and merges), and was hidden simply because I don't need it when I'm looking at my profile. I thought the profile page was more or less on top of whatever I was looking at before, and that part of the panel that's showing was the same panel from the page I was on before.
Insert a swearword.
In my opinion, everything about the profile should be in the same menu, under the avatar.
Thanks Maren.
