Inkscape 0.45 About Screen Contest - Community voting results
Hey there developers... I'm really sorry for how overly-complex I'm probably making this. Hopefully my reasoning will make sense.
Following are the top voted items in order of most to least votes. As I figured would happen for the voting (which is why I asked for a "runner-up" vote), we had a tie for a number one pick. The interesting thing is the difference between including the secondary votes... #3 becomes #1, and one of the two that tied for first (#1 in the single) becomes #4.
For note, I will be asking the artists for the runner-up entries if we can get them to create screenshots for us with their work. So either way the work won't be "lost" and will be on shown. People did some really great stuff that would be a nice addition to the screenshot page. :)
The results based on only going by people's 1st vote (you'll see the tie): 1 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/44792424/ - 10 votes 1 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45360907/ - 10 votes 3 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45363866/ - 9 votes
But when you take the secondary votes into consideration, the results are a bit different: 1 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45363866/ - 20 votes 2 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45360907/ - 16 votes 3 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45537505/ - 15 votes 4 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/44792424/ - 13 votes 5 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45681921/ - 12 votes
I included 1-5 there because what was #1 (tied) in the single was #4 when including the secondary... and hrum's pen was worthy to be included too. ;)
So... before voting begins... single or double vote roster? The real difference is it's a top 3 or top 5 we're choosing from (I say 5 choices is better).

How exactly are you taking them into consideration? I think it would make sense to give each design, say, 2 points for each 1st place vote and 1 point for each 2nd place vote. Is this how you tallied it?

It's how I re-tallied it. ;) I knew something seemed off... wasn't awake enough. :)
With Primary votes = 2 points and Secondary = 1 point we get:
1 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45363866/ - 29 points 2 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45360907/ - 26 points 3 - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/44792424/ - 24 points

This seems like a fair way to handle the selections.

Since the results (of the top 3) were really the same in the end whether we included the secondary or not. I say we begin voting. Someone else, please do the honors to kick this off. :)

When you asked for a second choice I thought you were going to be doing single transferable vote[1], in which secondary votes don't count unless the voter's first choice candidate is eliminated.
