Hi, I was approached the other day by Gabriel Vano (Cc'd in this message) from Give Life Color System (http://www.givelifecolorsystem.com/FreeColors.php) to help him contact someone on the Gimp dev list to ask if they would be interested in adding this new color system to their software. As Inkscape is using the same type of file for swatches I thought I'd give it a try, and it worked fine as you can at the bottom of this screenshot ( http://www.codexion.com/files/inkscape_givelifepalette.png). Do you think it might be interesting to add this swatch by default in future versions of Inkscape? Gabriel is willing to discuss copyright issues (assigning part of the rights to Inkscape or whatever).
Cheers,

Thanks for the pointer, an interesting system.

I had a look at the GIMP palette file. Maybe I don't understand or this is documented somewhere, but what I saw was a set of RGB triples with no indication of the colour space used and no indication of whether a given triple was an exact match for the printed swatch (which I assume is the reference) or whether it was out of gamut.
GIMP Palette Name: GiveLifeColorSystem # 209 172 184 20411 GiveLife CS 184 181 187 20402 GiveLife CS 232 100 151 20393 GiveLife CS (and so on)
It would be very interesting to see Lab values for these swatches as well as RGB values (and to know which RGB colour space was intended - sRGB?).
I also wondered if this information could be used to make an ICC 'named colours' profile.

I was also unsure what the license was for this palette, and would appreciate a pointer to the license. Maybe this is documented in the physical printed book?
Its good to hear that a clarifying discussion is welcomed.

Bo, you got it exactly right :)

I'd suggest to just use SwatchBooker's native file format for reference. It supports arbitrary color models and ICC profiles.
