Hello,
I don't know whether it is a bug :
- create an object (say, a square) - clone it with Alt-D - move the clone to see both objects - select the first original object - apply an "inset" or "outset" on it --> the clone disappears.
with 0.39 pre4 on debian sid

It quite possibly could be a bug, although it doesn't sound critical so most likely will be investigated after the release.

Yes it's a bug, thanks for reporting. The fix is simple and will be in CVS right after 0.39 is out.
