Is there a way to make a pattern-along-path without
distorting the
original path? Currently, all four options (single, single stretched, repeated and repeated stretched) distort the path
I do not understand your question. Could you provide an example of some kind?
I believe he is referring to the distortion of the objects. If your pattern consists of a square, you will end up with distorted squares that follow the path ( i.e. not straight lines connecting at 90 degrees). I think he wants to know if it will effective "stamp" the pattern along the path either rotating to follow the path direction at that point (or possibly not rotating...)
Is that what you mean Joshua? This is indeed not possible with pattern-along-path. You could file a feature request for such an effect. (please provide mockup of what you'd like)

I think the 10 px border that was removed from the toolbar is messing up my gtk theme.
There are screenshots to demonstrate what it looks like with .45 and with recent svn.
2218: blow up of .45 2455: blow up of svn 2219: normal sized .45 2456: normal sized svn
The theme is Meenee included with xfce
At least, I didn't notice this until after that patch was applied.

One way to accomplish this (somewhat) is to turn your object into a marker (Object->Object to Marker). Now draw the desired path, and change the line stroke and fill to none, and set the midpoint marker to the newly defined one. The marker will appear at each node. Use the Effects->Modify Path->Add Nodes to set the minimum node spacing desired.
