help needed to fix a windows-only bug
I would be grateful to anyone who can debug on Windows for any help with this critical bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/169011
I don't develop on Windows and I have no time to set it all up right now, but the bug seems somewhere in the style code which I know well, so if someone can tell me at least approximately where or when the unsetting happens I will probably be able to guess how to fix it.
Thanks!
Bulia, I am not a developer but I found the bug and I'm very interested in getting it fixed. What can I do to help? I can certainly test builds and try specific things that people might suggest. I am running Win2000 sp4 and the current nightly build (0712071739) still has the problem for me.
As far as using Inkscape is concerned, the unsetting occurs after the gradient is established. Anything that is done then to the object results in unsetting.
Note that when a clone is created before the gradient then the clone can be rotated etc and the gradient stays intact. The parent still unsets if it is messed with.
cheers, Erik kaver@...68...

Thanks, I may use your offer of testing eventually, but to start I need to get at least an idea of where in the code it happens. The code is quite complex so it may happen in a lot of places. If it could be reproduced on linux I would fix it quickly :)
I _think_ I fixed the windows-only "On rotate or duplicate, gradient fill goes unset" bug. The fix is in rev 16719. Anyone who was suffering from it, please test tomorrow's windows builds and let me know if it works for you.
Bulia, I've just tested build 0712162154 and the problem is fixed for me. Translation, duplication, and rotation all maintain gradient in original and clone. Thanks a million for seeing to it. It was really an annoying PITA. regards, Erik Erik Halbert kaver@...68...

OK,
I do a test with Inkscape 0.46dev built Dec 15 2007 - for the gradient unset bug - everything look ok now.
No problems on rotate / duplicate shapes / groups with gradient fill.
