When I use the inkscape win32 0.39 release (either zip or exe) I get
the xml document attributes:
inkscape:version 0.39cvs
I wonder why?

Hmm, it seems the windows makefiles etc. weren't updated.
This is harmless, but it's still something we should fix.
Bob or someone who is familiar with the windows build system, could you please update the making dists page on the wiki?

Would it be possible to create a simple script that updates all of the specs and makefiles in one motion, that could be easily run as part of the release process?

Yeah, and can we get them all in the Wiki also. Sorry, I didn't realize that the Windows numbering was separate! (why hasn't that hurt us before?)

I rebuilt the 0_39_BRANCH version again, this time -manually- typing '0.39' into the makefile. :-) I put the .zip on the server as *-0.39-2* .
I agree that this needs to be scripted. I have been leaning toward requiring Perl for both the cross-compiler and Win32-native builds, since Windows's batch processor is so poor. We will need it to sync the Makedef stuff with the Automake files, and for generating 'inkscape.def' , so why not use it for this, also?
Bob
Bob,
I am sorry for you in the inkscape binary (of your -2 zip package) there is still "0.39cvs" string. HTH,
Adib.
