_why's just switched a bunch of his projects to SVN, so it looks like I'm going to be getting some firsthand experience with it on real (i.e. multi-developer) projects.
I'll try and keep y'all updated on how it goes.

If anyone is interested in a relatively easy way to try out the basics of using SVN as opposed to complex administrative tasks I expect Mental has been doing then you could always checkout a KDE project (like Karbon 14) and may apply some of the tricks you have learned while developing inkscape to encourage healthy competition. (I also think Krita Paint is a interesting project.) http://developer.kde.org/build/compile_cvs.html (the link may CVS but it contains information on SVN)
During the summer I was looking to try something different and spent a little time experimenting with KOffice and their developers were friendly and appreciate the few modest patches and suggestions I provided.
I really didn't want to learn another abitrary new syntax (some kind of CVS compatibility gateway should have been built into Subversion by default dammit) it was easy for me to learn for the basics of checkout, diff and reverting some of the changes I had made locally but decided against using.
My point is KDE seem quite happy with their decision to use SVN and it was a relatively easy way for me to try it out while also taking a closer look at another Vector Graphics application (Karbon 14) and it might be something others would consider trying. (Kind of like a busmans holiday.)

GCC has also recently moved to Subversion: http://gcc/gnu.org
