Just something that popped into my head over night.
Basically I am thinking of a way of creating composite shapes by dragging other shapes onto a receptive shape. The default action would be Union, but Intersection and Difference should should be available through modifier keys.
The internal representation would be non destructive until convert to curves is used. NODE_EDIT mode would allow the component objects to be edited.
Also is anybody working on Layers or an Object Manager.

How would you accomplish this in a way that would be intuitive, yet not easy to do accidentally? If I read right, you're tired of Shift Clicking 2 Objects and then using Union? I'm not sure how you would accomplish this in a way that's not going to be frustrating for someone who might do it unintentionally.
Explain further? Why don't you submit a patch so we can play around with it?
