I have decided I should not interfere with icon work, as I tend to be too critical sometimes. However the newest calligraphic icon on the toolbar is so ugly I wanted to speak up. The idea to replace pencil with a pen is OK, but that pen is too out of sync with the rest of the icons. It seems too heavy and black because of the stroke, thus almost obscuring the calligraphic line it's drawing, and the entire icon looks dirty and noisy. Whoever did it, please try to make it cleaner.

I added it to icons.svg, but it was drawn by Andreas Nilsson. I'm not much of an artist, so please make changes as you see fit. Andreas, if you make changes, please use "icons.svg" from CVS, as that'll be easier to generate patches for.
(I don't have a very sensitive eye for this stuff, but I like the pen, it stands out as very different from the two pencil, which seems right to me for some reason.)

It needs to be different semantically, but not stylistically. Otherwise, you also need to change the two pencils to match.

What, did you use that one? I was under the impression it was never included and I was planning to redraw it sometime and suggest it again. I'll start redraw it (and the other pen icons, so they will match better) as soon as possible. Would a svg-version of something like the calligraphic icon in this screenshot be better, to match the gimp icons? http://www.gimp.org/screenshots/solaris_screenshot1.png - Andreas

Yes this would be much better I think.
Hello,
I would prefer much the pen one because the properties etc. are much more related to a pen than a brush or pencil. The pencil is ok for bezier-curves.
Also I have problems with the move layer-up/down. The arrows are that small that I dont know is this one going up or down.
HTH,
Adib.

I wonder why tools icons by David Christian Berg didn't go to CVS

I didn't do them because they're full replacements. i.e., we already have icons for those things. The calligraphic icon got changed because I didn't realize it already existed (I had made myself a list of all the icons Andreas Nilsson had made as XPM replacements).
DCB's icons will be available as a theme once the theming support is set up. (I haven't had time to get it working.)
I didn't mean to snub anyone, I was just trying to finish the XPM removal task. :)
