copy between files in 0.42
Okay, I narrowed the problem - if you open the attached file - then click on new and copy the original object to the new document it copies okay. But if you go to menu and open up Inkscape again and try to copy from the original and paste to the new, it does not copy. Works the same for both Gnome and KDE.

By "if you go to menu and open up Inkscape again", do you mean going to the system launch menu and running a new copy of Inkscape? If so then it's a known bug, Inkscape does not use the system clipboard for exchanging objects (except for text), it has its own internal clipboard which works within one instance of the program only.

Yes, that is what I meant, it shows up mostly when rt-clicking in Nautilus or Konqi to open up another Inkscape file that creates another copy of Inkscape. And especially noticeable when using a separate file as a "stencil" repository. But opening within the program is not that hard a workaround.
