Hi all,
I believe all frost exception development work should now be done, but would like to doublecheck. If you're on the following list, please reply with a status update:
1. Angled guidelines, by J.B.C.Engelen (DONE): Underlying code is complete, and guidelines are rendering, but it needs a UI to allow manipulating them.
2. Python module packaging (lxml, numpy) for OSX, by jiho (ETA ___): Needs wider testing. Needs someone to build PPC packages.
3. Compilation of lib2geom on OS X 10.3 (Panther), by John Faith (ETA ___): An error is preventing builds for Panther versions of Inkscape. If this can't be resolved before release, the alternative is to drop support for this OS version.
4. Font Spec Implementation, by Gail Carmichael (ETA Dec 27). Refactor patch to include some code review changes by Bulia. Also, the patch needs wider testing.
5. Win32 Uninstaller improvement, by Adib (ETA Jan 3). Fix current installer to not bug user for each changed file.
6. PDF, PS export improvements, by Adib (ETA Jan 3). Implement blur as bitmap, and display a dialog with options for text-to-path, blur-as-bitmap, alpha-as-bitmap. UPDATE: Option dialog for PDF/PS exports using cairo are implemented (PDF1.4 and PS3 only). Text-to-path works, for blur as bitmap need help with converting SPItem from vector to image, alpha as bitmap being done implicitly by Cairo
7. Clone Tiling dialog, by Tavmjong Bah (DONE): Add a few options to Shift, Scaling, and Rotation tabs. (TBD: Bug updating blur via Blur/Opacity tab.) (Also, TBD later: some small changes for default values for turbulence and composite filters.)
I'd love to hear that all this work is either done, or being safely postponed for the release. If not, let me know, because we need to close all such work ASAP.

done. Bugs and release notes are up to date. Current installer can be downloaded from sourforge inkscape-snapshots section http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93438&package_id=9...

partially done. done: dialogs, text as path works in progress (with help of simarilius) blur as bitmap issues: 1) there where problems reported related to cairo exporter, 2) export of text does not work in PS back-end, 3) sync options with command line parameters

Could you outline the plan of how this will be achieved in the next week? How is Simarilius' time availability? If he's busy, is there someone else with time that could help?
Also, if this work did not get done, does this result in a regression compared with 0.45.1? (I'm guessing not, but figured it should be asked.) If we're clear in listing it as a "known issue", how significant of a hinderance will this be for users? Are there ways they could achieve the effect manually or with an extension, or workaround the lack some other way?
Thanks, Bryce

An early patch is committed that does "normal shape" containing blur in the PS via cairo exporter. Many thanks to simarilius! current issues, in the order of the priority: 1)add additional needed transformations 2)implement this code in the PDF via cairo exporter, 3)fix the problem that bbox for is truncated https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/168385 and others 4)test on all items for blur(filters) 5)review code help needed on 2)-probably Miklosh? 3) probably Niko Kiiralahttps://bugs.launchpad.net/%7Ekiirala? and 5) HTH, Adib.

Alexandre,
do you think it is necessary to have this option in the dialogue? It grabs the DPI from the document properties. the code reuses the function "create bitmap copy" that also does not ask for DPI.
Should we discus and clarify this before release?

The very first complain you will receive for this great functionality is missing dpi selector for all embeddable bitmaps ;-)

90dpi is ok for screen graphics. If you want to send it to a printing service, you might like to prefer 300dpi. See Scribus's PDF export dialog for example of required options.
Alexandre

I agree with Alexandre. I'm frequently creating drafts of pdfs to send for approval, and it would be nice to specify lower dpi (hence smaller file sizes) for drafts or web documents, and much higher res (as Alexandre pointed out, 300dpi or larger) for print at the time of export.

Is there a way to make a pattern-along-path without distorting the original path? Currently, all four options (single, single stretched, repeated and repeated stretched) distort the path (there's no difference between stretched and non-stretched as far as I can see).

I do not understand your question. Could you provide an example of some kind?
(there's no difference between stretched and non-stretched as far as I can see).
The parameters are bugged, they only respond to even (or odd) changes. So you have to set each parameter twice, so to say. Probably this is why you do not see a difference. To see a difference: set to stretched, if it doesn't do anything, set it back to non-stretched, then set it to something else, then set it to stretched.
I know about the bug and it is work in progress. Sorry.
Johan

Thanks.
Except, I tried this and it didn't work. I chose "repeated", then "repeated stretched", then "single", then "repeated". Sometimes (when choosing "repeated" the final time) it changes from the previous setting to repeated stretched effect, sometimes it does nothing. But never does it change to just repeated non-stretched.
