Fw: how to submit tutorials for official documentation?
Hi again,
Also for item 4.2, under "Development (no coding needed)" > Mockup new dialogs. This is a good one, because I've seen questions about this in forums. No one seems to know where to submit such new dialog mockups. I might guess, the dev mailing list, but not sure. If you could tell me where/how, I'll include that :-)
And in that same section, > Add Extensions. I can say that it has been frustrating trying to guide people (in forum topics) who want to learn how to write extensions. If anyone could write a tutorial for that, or at least a brief guide, I think it would be very helpful, and as well, perhaps result in more new extensions. (Same for filters, although that's another story.)
As I mentioned earlier, related to updating the FAQ (in an older msg), I'll be making a list of needed documentation (afa the faq). So I'll include this in the list. No one really answered, when I asked to whom I should send such a list. I know you said Tav is the point guy for the manual. But for other documentation, who should I contact? Also Tav?
Thanks again :-D brynn

Hi Friends, For item #4.2 of the FAQ ("Are there non-coding ways to help?") under Help Fellow Users > Write Tutorials, I want to include info on how to submit tutorials for the official documentation. Or at least provide a link to such info. (Also, I might want to contribute tutorials myself.) So far, all I've found is this page http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/User_manual_information, which I'm not sure is even a relevant doc anymore. It says to subscribe to the Inks Docs mailing list, but other links are dead (not found). Is there any other info, that I haven't found yet? Or is subscribing to the list, pretty much all that's needed (and then tutorial writers will find out how to submit them, from the mailing list)? Thanks for your help :-) brynn

I don't think we have a docs guy at the moment. So we're sharing responsibility between our various skills. Tav would be the guy for many issues to do with the svg standard, units etc.
Martin,
I started a github for a new template for inkscape extensions and was planning a follow up doc on my blog (gone now) running through some of the ways to make extensions.
I'd very much prefer to place it somewhere more suitable where it could be maintained and improved. - https://github.com/Neon22/inkscape_extension_template Mark...

Wow, that sounds promising!
Do you mean a new place for the extension template project? Or a new place for the doc you were planning to write? or both? Why is github not working? (sorry, I'm new to the development side of things)
I think there are plans for inkscape.org to provide something like that. Some parts may already be available, such as InkSpace (in inkscape.org member profile). But I don't think all of it is fully deployed yet -- such as a page to display all projects -- but you can still upload individual resources . Check it out! http://inkscape.org/person/register/

Martin, I besides Mark Schafer's comment, I recently tried to register a 2nd username (one without admin privileges, for testing) but it didn't go through. Never got confirmation email. I thought it might be because it somehow recognized that I already had an account. However, I did use a different email address and a different username. I was going to get around to telling you, but you mentioned being ill, so I thought I would wait a bit. Or maybe users can only register by letting you know personally? I think that's how I originally reg'd. Anyway, Mark, if the features aren't widely available yet, they will be soon!

Hi Brynn, I think the mailing list is not a good place. Things get very easily forgotten on the list, burried under newer emails, and it is hard to find things back or discover older topics. Certainly better to put it somewhere else, for example our wiki or launchpad. Then one can post a link to the mailing list to draw attention to it, but there should also be a more permanent link to the work (say, from a summary page on our wiki).

Hi again,
Also for item 4.2, under "Development (no coding needed)" > Mockup new dialogs. This is a good one, because I've seen questions about this in forums. No one seems to know where to submit such new dialog mockups. I might guess, the dev mailing list, but not sure. If you could tell me where/how, I'll include that :-)
Hi Brynn, I think the mailing list is not a good place. Things get very easily forgotten on the list, burried under newer emails, and it is hard to find things back or discover older topics. Certainly better to put it somewhere else, for example our wiki or launchpad.
