0.92: Middle mouse button not panning?
I just noticed in 0.92-pre2, at least on Windows, the mouse middle button does not pan anymore.
On 0.91 installation, same machine, middle mouse button pans.
[ If enabling "scrolling" by space key (checkbox "Mouse move pans when Space is pressed"), that kind of panning works, however you need to have the canvas "focused" for this to work (you get this gratis with middle mouse button), so it's really inconvenient in comparison. ]
Can anyone confirm with Linux build, or on another Windows machine? This feels more likely to be me having some corruption in my installations, than an actual regression, so I hesitate to report it just yet.
Cheers,

Works fine for me on Windows 10 x64 with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of 0.92. Panning performance in the 32-bit version is much worse (might be an issue with the different library versions we use), but works nonetheless...
Maybe your middle mouse button gets reassigned somehow by your mouse driver?
Regards, Eduard
Middle mouse button works in Repetier Host (3d Print software), and, as I said, in Inkscape 0.91 on same machine. Also Blender orbitting works with my mouse middle button.
I'm actually running 32-bit version, installed via Exe installer (the MSI installer won't let me install 0.92pre2 as I have 0.91 on my machine, reported as a bug to Launchpad today).
I uninstalled 32-bit version, and installed 64-bit version (via Exe-installer again), same behaviour sadly.
Is there any setting that controls middle mouse button behaviour that I am missing browsing through the settings, that perhaps has changed from 0.91?
Mvh

I wasn't suggesting that you middle mouse button wasn't working but that it could have been assigned another function in Inkscape by you mouse driver (i.e. in Logitech SetPoint you can change the function of mouse buttons per application and since these settings are dependent on the path of the executable it might well change the behavior between two installations of Inkscape).

You can try renaming the folder "C:\Users[your_username]\AppData\Roaming\inkscape". If it is a setting issue this should reveal it. (I just verified that panning with middle mouse button works on my machine with default settings).

OK, I checked the setpoint software, the Middle button as set to behave as middle button. (I didn't know the software could override per path/application, and have therefore never intentionally done so)

That did it! Thanks a bunch Eduard!
I don't know how to take this further. Perhaps it's a weird edge-case for the migration of my 0.91 settings to 0.92?

I'm not too familiar with Inkscape preferences myself, but if you send your original preferences to the mailing list or attach them to a bug report maybe someone can figure out what caused the issue...
OK, attaching inkscape.bak.zip and inkscape.zip:
inkscape.bak.z(ip): the settings that gave me no-middlebutton-zoom inkscape.z(ip): default prefs' after renaming folder to inkscape.bak and booting 0.92 again.
(I had to rename files to .z because if file extension rejection by mail server)
