I've tried this on Windows and it looks much better indeed - the fonts are closer to what standard Windows apps use. Ishmal, can you please include this change into the build kit? Comments from other win32 users are welcome too.

I was wondering how I can could the menu fonts in Inkspace; it displays display significantly larger than other GTK applications. I found that by modifying the gtkrc files in \Inkscape\etc\gtk-2.0, I could get the size I wanted by replacing this line:

with this one:
gtk-font-name="verdana 6.5"

The logical extension of this might be to include this:
http://gtk-wimp.sourceforge.net/
in the build. It does make things look much more windows-y.

Would be perfect if it works.
Does for me.

So what do we need to include it in our windows builds?

As described here:
http://gtk-wimp.sourceforge.net/faq/
So just a few extra copies in the make dist, I think.

Yeah. I think I will let someone else wonder about how to do this in a Makefile! :)
I think it will be fairly easy if you can include gtk-wimp in your magic gtk.zip... ;-)

How about this idea: I am in the process of gathering an updated set of Gtk files (gtk2.4, etc) to replace the gtk library suite we use for Win32 builds. How about, I include Gtk-Wimp in that package by default?

Sounds like a good plan. Unless we desperately want to get it into 0.39.

dl the zip, put libwimp.dll in inkscape\lib\gtk-2.0\2.2.0\engines replace inkscape\etc\gtk-2.0\gtkrc with the one from the zip
and it works. v nice too.

Done. I think. Maybe.

Now that it is done, are you certain that Verdana is available on all Windows boxes? ;-)

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verdana it's bundled with Windows since 1996.
