Hello again, The build notes for Win32 (http://inkscape.org/win32/win32buildnotes.html) include the following step:
* Get the latest Mingw distribution, here [http://www.mingw.org/]. It will be called something like mingw-x.x.x.exe.
I could not find any such thing at the mingw.org site. They've broken their distribution down into dozens of little pieces, and I have no idea which I need. As an alternative, I decided to try using my existing cygwin installation. Unfortunately, cygwin seems to have a newer compiler with several subtle incompatibilities. After a few hours tracking down build problems, I give up. Does anyone have a working "mingw installation" they can zip up and send me? Or, at least some information on what it takes to get such a thing? I would really appreciate it.

They have a small net installer which you run to download and install other packages. I just told it to install everything, and then I think I also had to install the make package separately - for some reason the net installer didn't install it.
I think we need to update that page accordingly...

I can, if you still need it. Just let me know.

Yes, they have modified their bundles a bit, and are on the verge of doing it again. I have had problems with the installer in the past, so I assemble Mingw by the individual pieces.
Heh. I always hate it when someone posts a problem to a list, and then someone replies with "works for me," which is a bit irritating. But... this is a good idea... I just uploaded -what- works for me to the server. I assembled the Mingw dir by fresh downloads of its parts, and did a build with it to make sure that it works. I zipped the c:\mingw directory and uploaded it to: http://inkscape.org/win32/mingw-0510112028.zip
Just unzip it to c:\mingw again, and you should be able to use it without problems.
