So, I download the source from sourceforge. ./configure --prefix=/home/shannleon/inkscape ; make -j4 It products same error.

Could you do a back trace (see Reporting Bugs on the website for directions), and then make sure there is a bug registered in the bug tracker for this issue? (The About screen has been working ok for me, so it may be something unique to your environment, and the back trace might help narrow down where the fault is.)

BTW, the zh_CN po file should be removed from the source. Because most strings have no translated. And the translation remains are totally wrong.

Okay, please mention this on the inkscape-translator@...6... list so they can look into it. By chance would you be available to help work on the translation for the 0.44 release? (You can see what is involved by looking at the TranslationInformation page in the Wiki section on the Inkscape website.)
