I propose we give a crazy extension to it or put it on hold. My thought is that we can aim for the calendar to be ready for the middle of '06. We could then make it an 18-month calendar that will go through the end of '07. Doing this will give everyone time to work on new pieces and refine older ones. We'll also get better quality entries and hopefully people will get other great features to work with in the interim as well.
I don't think that just extending it for a shorter period of time will do anyone any good. If we're going to associate Inkscape with any fund raising merchandise, we should aspire to give people their moneys worth. Any thoughts?

Indeed, the time was very short and extending one more week or so will not make a big difference. But the people i know shop for calendars _only_ at the beginning of a new year, i assume in other parts of the world people do the same, so i doubt the usefulness of publishing one in the summer.
If the problem is that we don't have enough quality submissions, maybe we can consider images form the about dialog contest.

I know that when shopping for calendars, the beginning of the year is typically when people pick them up. However, I think us releasing an Inkscape calendar is a little different. I think there's a good chance that they would sell well for no other reason that helping to fund development. Geeks seem to like novelties branded by what they have a passion for.

The about dialog entries were okay, but this is something that people will look at throughout the month... therefore the bar should be set a little higher in my opinion.

We'd have to get agreement from those contestants, first, and unless we were making an "inkscape about screens" calendar most wouldn't be appropriate anyway.
(when we actually have had 12 about screens for inkscape, then an about screen calendar -- with real about screens that got used -- might not be a bad idea)
Basically, if we try and release a calendar this year, it's going to suck. Let's not rush things.

I think best to set a deadline like JAN 15 for the final deadline, stick to that, and knock it all out. THat is a little over a month and can be done in time for the calendar rush (people still use paper calendards???)...
