Bringing back onlist so the question is archived for others to see (and including RiDiRi in the Carbon Copy list because he obviously isn't on the list).

Alan
I downloaded InkScape Ver. 0.42.2-1 win 32.exe. All that I can tell you, is that when I originally downloaded InkScape about two weeks ago, the program ran fine. I was away from the computer for 4 days. When I got back on, the program doesn't get past a black screen that says 'new document 1 - Inkscape'. The screen appears for about 1 second, then goes away.
While on this page showing all the InkScape file, there is one InkScape exe. icon that that says 'inkscape exe - unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because libatkmm-1.6-1 was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix it.
There may have been an error in the package and that file might really be missing but I'm surprised it worked the first time but didn't work later.
The only way I know how to reinstall anything, is by uninstalling and reinstalling the whole program. But with always the same results.
That probably should have worked.
I enjoyed working with the program the short time that I've had it,
Good to hear
but I don't think there is anything else I can tell you. And I don't want you to be wasting your time on me.
Helping users is not a waste of time. Very often we learn about problems which may have accidentally been overlooked or get ideas for improvements. Knowing people are using and enjoying inkscape is something we all like to hear and not at all a waste of time.
I thank you for all that you suggested. And I probably drop in on your site and try again in the future.
Perhaps someone else on the list can offer a better suggestion on how to fix your current setup but if you are willing to wait there should be a windows version of Inkscape 0.43 release this week (or sooner) and personally I would do the easiest thing and wait for 0.43.
Hope that helps
Sincerely
