Regarding SVG support in FireFox, after some testing we came to the following conclusions.

(1) tspan is used to position each character (more) precisely on a page (for example if a text string uses kerning) As far as we can tell is that FireFox (FF2 and FF3) does not support this feature. It just ignores the tspan commands.

(2) FF2 does not support multiple spaces in string. It looks like FF2 ignores the additional spaces between the words.

Any remarks/suggestions are very much appreciated.

We just added a feature to our PDF FLY graphics conversion suite which extract the font glyphs from unknown embedded fonts in a PDF file and include them in the resulting SVG file.

There was no video recording since it was in the other room.

I added two slides with static screenshots of the demos.

They work fine in Opera, an look fine in Inkscape too.

(Firefox does not do SVG fonts and also seems to miss off some text).
