I'm not totally up to date with my cvs and not sure if it is worth compiling a new version of inkscape. But I was wondering, if there is "save as copy" menu item, just as in gimp. You know, when you want to create an ps, or eps, you do want to save the changes into the svg as well. You could also think about extending the functionality of the export dialog to handle the .ps .ai and .eps and what ever formats as well.
