Hey All,
It appears that everything is still on track for 0.48. Given that, I'd like to remind everyone that Chill will be setting in about 2 weeks from now. For those that do not know, here's what happens during Chill:
New feature development focuses on wrapping up. We identify current 'make distcheck' issues. Have a small sprint to Triage new bug reports. Run an About Screen contest. Ensure that the Release Notes are at First Draft stage. Update tutorials and other docs (we could use volunteers).
I'd like to push that if we want to get the DBUS stuff in for this release, that we look to get it merged by the 1st of March if possible (we just need to not break anyone's compilation, we can get it working on all platforms after the fact).
Lastly, there is always an "open culture" issue about the hosting of the About Screen contest. Unless someone has something functional and easy for us to use by Chill, it will be taking place via DeviantART again.
Any questions or comments?
Cheers, Josh
Hi,
De : Joshua A. Andler <scislac@...400...> ... Run an About Screen contest.
Could we require the authors to use an opensource font? (Other ideas regarding the about screen: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/463814 -please comment.)
... Update tutorials and other docs (we could use volunteers).
Yes, some tutorials (tracing...) are a bit old and need to be updated. A (non exhaustive) todo list is available here: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/440194
BTW, the tutorials are now scoured (with codedread's scour extension), and the overall tutorials size is reduced by about 40%. I first wanted to reduce it even more by providing a scoured and compressed (svgz) version, but now I'm not sure it's a good idea. It reduces the file size on disk, but makes tutorials harder to debug. And the package size reduction would be very small. Any opinion?

We can, however, I believe it being a font that's licensed in a friendly way is really all that matters. I know that the style of Draw Freely has remained the same and believe that there was a free font found that matched it pretty well (wasn't that what was used for 0.47?). I will comment on the bug report later today.

Thanks for the list. It's definitely a bare minimum, I will add some comments later with other things I know need to be updated.

Since there was no opposition to this, I am going to announce Chill tomorrow as well as announce the About Screen contest. Last chance to speak up if you think it's moving too fast.
I also want to reiterate... if there is a desire for the DBUS work to get merged, I'd really like to see a first commit by March 1 if possible. If it's not in by March 15, it will not be making it into 0.48.
Cheers, Josh
