[Can ignore if you're not attending the Hackfest!]
Hi All,
Some information about the Hackfest venue, and a request for your dietary requirements...
== Venue == The Hackfest venue will be in the Evans Room at Devonshire Hall in the Hyde Park area of Leeds [1]. It is a traditional "Oxbridge style" stone-built hall. Our meeting room will accommodate 10 delegates.
== Catering == A buffet lunch will be provided each day. I will suggest that we break for lunch at 1300 each day, unless there are any objections. Please let me know by tomorrow if you have any special dietary requirements.
There will also be an unlimited supply of tea, coffee and biscuits. Sugar, milk and soy milk will be provided.
== Facilities == * Wireless networking * UK mains power (remember to bring your own socket adapters if you're coming from outside the UK!!) * Data projector & screen * Flipchart and pens
== Nearby amenities == There are a few pubs, bars, cafes and coffee shops 5 minutes walk away from the venue if we want a change of scenery. There is also a small convenience store.
The venue is located on the Woodhouse Ridge nature trail if you want to step out for some fresh air [2].
== Local contact == I live within walking distance of the venue. Send me a message if you get stuck! I'll also be free on the Sunday evening before the Hackfest if anyone would like to meet for food/drink in Leeds City Centre.
Best wishes,
Alex

Sounds awesome! Thanks for the update, Alex. :) Sounds like you've got us hooked up!
One question: Is the network open-access, WPA(2) or is it VPN?
Thanks! -C

Allergies: Eggs, Tree nuts.
There will also be an unlimited supply of tea, coffee and biscuits. Sugar, milk and soy milk will be provided.
Unlimited biscuits? http://bit.ly/1S22smD I thought you still had rationing.
- UK mains power (remember to bring your own socket adapters if you're
coming from outside the UK!!)
Try to bring a IEC cable instead of a socket adapter (or fire service forbid an actual transformer) the current/voltage will work with your existing computer's power supply and the wires are cheap:

There is also a small convenience store.
Have I been gone that long they've stopped calling shops, shops.
Thanks Alex!

Have I been gone that long they've stopped calling shops, shops.
Alex is just being non-EU vernacular friendly.
Shops are still called shops, and "off-license", though I've lived here for 8 years and I still don't know why that confusing term persists. I asked several Brits on-the-spot, and no one knew what it actually meant without Googling it. "I think it means they sell alcohol." Was a common reply. :)
Even in the soggy foggy, ymmv. ;)

Thanks Martin,
I have passed on your requirements to the venue.
Actually in Yorkshire, we call it t'shop but I said t'store for t'sake o' daft foreign buggers.

Off topic cultural insight into the hackfest location:

In Widnes we'd call em the offie' although in Boston they're called "packie" which sounds offensive until you learn it's from "Package Store" and not "Pakistani shop"
But they're off-licenses because they have a license to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises. I don't know why people don't know that, it's required to be posted on a sign above the door.
I hope the event will not have us buying alcohol for off premisis consumption and that instead we'll be taking advantage of one of the many pubs. Matt Lee (former FSF) recommended a few places at Libre Planet.
Best Regards, Martin Owens
Thanks Alex!

We have the venue from 9-5 each day, so let's say 9 on Monday. There are a couple of friendly, and reasonably quiet pubs nearby if we want to carry things on informally after 5 though.
