Idea: Website header competition
Ages ago Bulia suggested that it would be a really good idea to have a more artistic header image for the Inkscape website. Given the success of the About Screen contest, I think an excellent and easy way to get such a header image would be to stage a similar competition. Does that sound like a good idea?

If you'd like to coordinate that, I also think it'd be a great idea.
Can you define what you think the ground rules should be for the contest?

I called for web site header submissions quite some time ago, look up my mail in the list archive for the ideas and requirements. There was only one small submission :(
Hopefully the deviantart community will be more productive.

Actually, that is the plan. ;) I had discussed that with Bryce prior to the About screen contest, but the latter took priority for obvious reasons. Once we've released the final .42, the website beautifying contest will start soon thereafter.

Ah, that's right.
Let me clarify my previous response. "As long as someone takes responsibility for coordinating it, I think it's a good idea."
Josh had asked about it first, but maybe both of you could collaborate on getting it organized?

Oh ok, I shan't interfere then! ; ) Just wanted to make sure that Bulia's suggestion had not been forgotten as it would be really nice to get the Inkscape website a tad more visually pleasing.
I take it you'll be co-ordinating the competition?

Yup! I think I'm unofficially (or maybe even officially) in charge of the dA contests. ;) What can I say... being more of an artist than a programmer, I take an interest in the community and want to utilize/stimulate them wherever possible. In general it's one of the best aspects of open source (in my opinion), the community... and being able to contribute back to the project regardless of your skill set. Either way, if you'd like to be involved in the administration side or if you have any input outside of what Bulia had posted forever ago, let me know.
