Here is the file, but I got uncanny edge detection to work. I think another issue is that many people have the option selected to import images as tiles, and this will not allow POTRACE to operate on their selection. I had this happen a few times.
POTRACE is awesome in Inkscape!

Hi Jon,
thanks for the file. I can't reproduce your problem though: it traces in 0.87 seconds with my standalone potrace. So my guess is that there are still some kinks in inkscale's potrace implementation.
You should probably mention the "tiles" problem to Bob Jamison. It should not be too hard (although possibly inefficient) to adjust potrace's frontend to work with tiles.
