Patterns: display of unit cell
Hi all,
The knots for a pattern applied to a shape used to be scaled by 0.5, such that the displayed knots where on the border of a quarter unit cell. I have removed this as I found it confusing and awkward now with the snapping of those points while trying to get a good checkerbord fill at the grid's spacing.
Perhaps someone can tell me why this factor was put in?
Thanks, Johan

Because without it, a rectangle filled with pattern will have all of the pattern knots in the corners, which will make them harder to manipulate as they will interfere with the rectangle nodes or handles. Still, if no one else will object to your change, I won't object either :) Just please don't forget to fill in a release note on this.
Johan,
if you implemented arbitrary-ratio pattern scaling, can you please also implement fixed-ration scaling with Ctrl? I use fixed-ratio scaling much more often and now it's almost impossible to do.
Also, did you get my last emails on 2 more spiro bugs?
Thanks!
Hi Bulia,
Yes i received the mails. I felt like working on something stupid this evening, i.e. NR:: => Geom:: , and the scaling/snapping of patterns I needed for work. I'll add the ctrl fixed ratio scaling soon.
Hope to fix the spiro bugs soon too.
Johan

If it turns out that other people use fixed-ratio scaling more often, too, would it make sense to set it as the default and use Ctrl for arbitrary-ratio scaling? Or is this bad because people wouldn't expect Ctrl to work that way (namely, to relax a constraint)?

I think it's better to be consistent: Ctrl must resrict ratio exactly as it does in Selector.

Done, see if you like the result.
