Re: [Inkscape-devel] Problem with Nautilus
As far as I can remember, that problem was caused by a bug in the creation of thumbnails. If it's that, you can temporarily fix it by deleting the .thumbnails folder and de-activating thumbnail generation from nautilus preferences. Nautilus is pretty clumsy when it comes to thumbnail creation. Even in newer versions you'll find some problems with that (for instance, browsing a folder with SVG documents with several embedded images - the new inkscape's default - will freeze nautilus until thumbnails are ready, and file limits specified in the preferences don't seem to apply).
OK - as far as I remember I used a temporary solution I've used PCMan file manager which can handle SVG files with no problem.
The patch for thumbnails was added to some gnome lib so my today nautilus is just the unchanged Nautilus which come with Ubuntu. And this is strange - because this bug is not replicable on my system. I am designer and I use Inkscape almost 70% of my time - I do sketches in Inkscape and then the final artwork in WIndows with Adobe Illustrator. What I wanna say is that I have a large number of SVG files some of them with many complex objects inside (clipped patch and masks) but no any problem until now. Because I use some big bitmaps embed inside - some files are also big ~ 300 Mb.
In the end of this message I would recommend the PCMan which is a very good and fast filemanager. I will not recommend Thunar as an alternative for Nautilus because he crashed on the same SVG files.
