Cool. There was no patch attached, but go ahead and commit directly to the codebase. Your last patch looked fine and from what you describe this one sounds good too.

I did a second-over on the files in the gtkmm codebase, to double check my work and fix all the switch statements.

While going through the second time, I also found a few things I missed the first time.

The only changes I made where:

*, &, and type modifiers in their proper place

made the WIDGET header #defines like the DIALOG header defines

cleaned-up spacing in places where it made sense
