Hi,
Could anybody please have a look at http://inkscape.org/download/ and say whether instructions for Mac users still apply?
The bit about Leopard (not Snow Leopard) and Xquartz is especially interesting (like never having installed X11 on Leopard before).
Thanks in advance.

Current text [1]: * OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard – Universal .dmg * OS X 10.5, Leopard – Universal .dmg (Please first upgrade X11.app to at least XQuartz v2.1.4.) * OS X 10.4, Tiger – PPC .dmg (requires Apple's X11 v1.1.3)
a) Snow Leopard: Not mentioning X11 gives the impression, that there is a separate, native build available which does not require X11 (which of course is not true: Snow Leopard and Leopard use the same Inkscape package (Universal i386 PPC, 32bit) and both require Apple's X11 (or a more recent Xquartz devel version).
b) Leopard: A fully updated 10.5.8 has Apple's X11 updated to 2.1.6 (which corresponds to Xquartz 2.2.3), so the hint to install an old Xquartz version could be confusing (Apple's X11 and Xquartz use a different versioning scheme).
If a user never installed X11 from the installation disc before, she can update it to 2.1.6 using the system's Software Update, after installing the old version from the disc. On an updated Leopard system (10.5.8) there is no real need to install a development version of X11/Xquartz from http://xquartz.macosforge.org/ (unless the users knows the difference and explicitly choses to do so).
I'm also emphasizing this because the 'GIMP on OS X' project [2] (which many Inkscape users on a Mac do have installed and in use) has made efforts to ensure that it works with Apple's current X11 (and explicitly does not recommend to install any version of Xquartz). Why should Inkscape recommend to install Xquartz instead of X11 if it works equally well with Apple's current X11 (2.1.6) on Leopard?
c) Tiger: Remove the link to http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10464: it doesn't provide useful information for Tiger (or Leopard). Do we have PPC builds of Inkscape 0.48 available yet? Any news about building a Universal package for Tiger?
Proposed new text:
* OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard – Universal .dmg (requires Apple's X11/Xquartz 2.3.4 or higher) * OS X 10.5, Leopard – Universal .dmg (requires Apple's X11 2.1.6 or Xquartz) * OS X 10.4, Tiger – PPC .dmg (requires Apple's X11 v1.1.3)
Could someone with SVN access also fix bug #574570 “Download links don't escape the "+" character, breaks in some browsers” [3]? The download link 'Latest stable version' on each page of inkscape.org is broken for Mac users.

I've got a setup for building it, but I'm waiting for the final release of sources.
Any news about building a Universal package for Tiger?
AFAIK, Tiger is no longer supported by macports.
I wasted hours on setting up for building universal, but there are so many failures when building the necessary compontens not beeing fixed by macports people, that I do not see there's a way to build inkscape Tiger universal.
It may be easier with an Intel Tiger machine - but I guess, most of these have been upgraded.

They have been out since 2010-08-13 (see http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.inkscape.devel/34692 http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.inkscape.devel/34691
You can download the tar file from sf.net: https://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/0.48/

Apparently so! ;)

Thank you for your efforts trying to get inkscape build universal! (yes, using MacPorts to install all requirements with the required archs can be troublesome, even on supported OS X versions). I agree that users on Intel machines are more likely to (have) upgrade(d) to (Snow) Leopard.
