I'm nearly done a patch that converts SPButton to a subclass of GtkToggleButton. Works great, with one issue -- apparently, an SPIcon widget refuses to paint itself when placed in a GtkButton.

I'm going to keep trying to narrow down the problem, but if anyone has any ideas...
