comitted: revised about dialog
I ended up having trim the copy down a bit to make it fit. Also, per buila's suggestion, the closing paragraph is now:
"Available from most fine Linux Distributions, or obtained direct for Windows or Mac OS X at 8 b. per byte: http://www.inkscape.org"
Aside from the copy changes, I removed some leftover vector bits (namely a very fine stroked path that was interfering with the Inkscape logo), softened the '3' to match the '4', and re-enabled the coffee stains.
Personally I think the stains add character, but if y'all don't like them, they're just a layer we can hide or delete.

Stains are fine, but why are they not clones? Please try replacing the individual stains with clones of a single stain, with varying opacity/size. This will make the file a lot smaller and faster to load.
By the way, yesterday I clonified several icons in icons.svg and easily gained 30Kb file size reduction, meaning faster startup time. Please always use clones whenever possible. Clones rule. :)

I can try ... in some cases I think I can get away with it visually, in some cases the similarity will be too obvious.
Note that I didn't add these to the file; they were always there, just hidden before. So the only consideration is really rendering time.
