I've some problems creating 0.48.2 for windows. I get a couple of error messages during building.
I just checked out 0.48.2 from Bazaar in my Windows XP VM, and I encounter no problems when building from a source checkout with TDM-GCC 4.4.1. It looks like the warning emitted when compiling btool is irrelevant (and I don't even get the warning).
I'm 90% sure the first error is caused by building from a tarball (you just need to create the required inkscape-version.cpp file manually), the second looks like a problem with permissions (maybe UAC is getting in the way?)

Whoever is on it, please someone just change 0.48.1 to 0.48.2 on our website. I don't know how, but I guess more people than our busy Josh can do this right? :) If we "release" without release announcement, so be it!
It is getting quite bizarre, where we released the source two (!) months ago, one month ago the windows binaries were uploaded to SF, and 45 minutes ago our very active bugprocessor ~suv writes: "I'd rather wait until 0.48.2 is officially released". Woah...
Thanks! Johan
Not sure about other linux distros, but I upgraded the Ubuntu package to 0.48.2 about 8 weeks ago and Debian will be updating too in the near future. It could end up confusing package users if the upstream website still says 0.48.1 is the current release.

Don't worry, I either think I'm using 0.46 or 0.49. although I assume it's actually 0.48 (that's what was in 10.10 right?).
Can we move to either the date based naming or the 1.x release scheme already?

Hey All,
0.48.2 is out... news is on the site and download recommendations changed on SF. It's marked as released on LP. News has been posted to Reddit, Slashdot, and deviantART.
The numbering scheme change won't happen until the next major release of Inkscape and I expect that we will have at least one more bug fix release in the 0.48.x branch. It would be nice though if we could come to a consensus on the numbering change.
Cheers, Josh

Could you please update the download page on inkscape.org? I can now confirm that the package for OS X (Inkscape-0.48.2-1-SNOWLEOPARD.dmg) in addition to:
° Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard – Universal .dmg (requires Apple's X11/Xquartz 2.3.4 or higher)
also works on:
° Mac OS X 10.5.8, Leopard – Universal .dmg (requires Xquartz 2.5.1 or higher)
The min requirement of Xquartz 2.5.1 [1] puts users in a potential conflict with the instructions to use GIMP on OS X (2.6.11), which doesn't officially support any Xquartz version (which is the development branch for the stable X11 installed by Apple). However, as far as I can tell, GIMP still works after upgrading to Xquartz 2.5.1, so I'm no longer concerned about this requirement (in addition to the fact that most users will have migrated to Snow Leopard or Lion anyway).
~suv
It may also be worth mentioning on the download page that Ubuntu users (and possibly Debian too?) can download and install the official Ubuntu binary package of Inkscape by just clicking on a link to apt://inkscape in their browser... that's a lot less scary for novice users than compiling it themselves from source!

Alex,
In addition to this, is there such a handler for PPA URLs if one does not already have a PPA in their sources list? It would just be nice to add to the nightly list too.
Cheers, Josh
The apturl manpage indicates that apturl can handle installation from PPAs. The following example syntax is given:
apt+http://launchpad.net/~mvo/ppa?package=2vcard
However, the manpage says that this is currently disabled owing to security concerns, so I guess we could only handle one-click installation from the Ubuntu repository rather than an upstream PPA at the moment.
