Sounds like http://fundable.org would be a workable mechanism. Define the feature, announce it here, and let people contribute according to interest level.

BTW, would it me more productive to enhance Cairo to convert between various surface/image format backends and the (perhaps unfinshed) PDF backend. Some sort of recording canvas might be needed, but very useful to other Cairo apps.

That wouldn't preserve much in the way of document structure, but structure preservatino is generally what people would want when converting to PS/PDF.

Yup, I've had the same thought. I definitely think this is a way we could handle the fund raising.

Yup. Focusing our resources onto Cairo would also pay off longer term, since other things we need also intersect with the need to make more use of Cairo.
