The pattern fill capability is *great*!
I have one suggestion, but have no idea if this is easy or hard... As an option it would be extremely useful to be able to specify "whole object fills only" that would only print the tiled object if it can be done in a non-clipped fashion.
For example....

See in the polygon on the lower right, that only whole shapes are shown. Objects that would be partial fills are excluded.

In general that's not possible within the confines of SVG.
However, it might be possible to automate the sort of polygon-reshaping-to-fit-tiles that you did by hand here.
