Is anyone interested getting Inkscape into the the Hackontest? Seems to me like if registered, Inkscape would have a pretty good chance of being accepted.
Inkscape has a large user base -- good for getting votes from the loyal Inkscape's purpose is easy to understand -- good for getting votes from people who've never even heard of it Inkscape is modular enough -- you need a project idea that can realistically be done in 24 hrs, and many things like cool new LPEs or exporters or importers could realistically be done in that time frame. Inkscape has a huge list of contributors -- important because you need to actually get 3 people willing to go to Sweeden and code for 24 hrs straight.
I think Inkscape would have a good shot.

I thought it'd be cool, but they capped the travel at $1000 per person. I don't think that I could get a plane ticket to Switzerland for $1000 much less including hotel and food. I'm guessing with that it's basically open only to people in Europe, perhaps the NE coast.

Sounds really cool! (Zurich is a cool city, I can tell :P) I'm willing! I think there are many feature requests that can be satisfied by 3 (good) people in 24 hours. Inkscape has lots of low hanging fruit for those familiar with the code.
Unfortunately, I think it is true what Ted says that without extra financing (personal or otherwise) it's only for people from Europe.

Actually it's 3 people on-site plus however many people want to participate from the internet at large. So part of point is to show how much can be done by a world-wide collaboration in short time. The power of open source and the internet and all that.

There must be a few contributors in Europe who could go, no? Even if they'd just be figureheads managing contributions from folks elsewhere?

I'd be delighted to go, too. Especially since it's just a couple of hours' train ride from my place. However, my plans for after my graduation and the post-SoC phase are not tightened yet, so there remains a small chance that I won't be able to go. But if I can manage it at all, count me in. Did I understand correctly from the website that there is still a couple of months time to decide?
