Re: [Inkscape-devel] Updated fr.po file, plus some few remarks

I've just uploaded an updated fr.po file. Only a few strings (for Fret Find) are not yet translated : i will update
them
as soon as I can find someone able to provide me the necessary explanations
for
this vocabulary.
That someone is me. Maybe we should take a shot at changing the strings a little.
Hum, in fact I was meaning the French vocabulary. The issue being this vocabulary is quite specialized (luthiers, string instrument manufacturers...) and I'd like not to commit to many mistakes. It's not a problem : I've already faced this with the typographic (remember, kerning...) vocabulary. And the issues have been solved with the help of some Inkscape developppers a good dictionnary... and some French typographs that have been kind enough to provide some "live explanations". -> I'll have to follow the same process here for this vocabulary. Not really an issue then, looks more like me justifying the fact I've not finished the job yet.
Just a few remarks :
- i would suggest that Licenses should be translatable
Might be a bad idea because the license is a legal type document.
Let me precise then : - first a lot of those licenses are translated in some other languages Examples : - the CC licenses are officialy translated, - the GPL is on the process of getting some official translations (not finished yet). - proprietary and public domain are explicit licenses by themselve
Other point : let's say I'm a German (or French) artist. I want to specify a licence in the metadata of my creations. Up to now, with Inkscape, I'm stuck with the American licences and they may not cover my needs. This implies the need for a "custom licence" button I think...
- it may also be a good idea to embed directly in inkscape some
documentation
about the effects (in a tab linked to each effect dialog?)
Excellent suggestion. Much needed.
Other point : some strings are not translatable at the moment. Even if they are correctly marked in the code (Document properties, Document metadata....) they have not been embedded in the po files. Non exhaustive list : File menu : Document properties, Document metadata, Edit menu : Tile Clones View menu/show-hide : Panels Effects menu : Blur Edge, Enhance Path, Extract One Image, Render The complete Document Properties dialog ...
And yet another one : I've decided in French to translate 'Summer's night' by 'Perspective', which is less poetic, but much more explicit.
Regards (sorry for the verbose mail),
Matiphas

Unfortunately, "Perspective" is incorrect. It is an envelope, but not a perspective envelope. I plan to rename "Summer's night" to something less "poetic" when I can get someone to suggest a more specific and appropriate label. I should have pressed this sooner. Sorry, for the trouble.

Thanks for the remark. Corrected in patch tracker.

Did you do an update-po? I just fixed a couple of these last week, so the po files might not have been updated. I'll look into all of them.
--Ted
PS - The effects menu should be in alphabetical order. It is in English, is that working in other languages also?

No I've downloaded latest revision of fr.po on subversion (from the web access).
