Hi all,
Is anything remaining to be done, or are we ok to move into hard freeze tomorrow? If so, perhaps we can target having 0.40 tagged and branched by Friday evening?
Bryce
what about translations ???

I think we need to have a separate freeze stage after hard code freeze for translations and other collateral.
One remaining non-code issue I'd like to discuss is what we should call the initial layer in those of our templates that have layers; "Layer 1" doesn't seem like a very good idea since subsequent layers will not be automatically named "Layer 2", "Layer 3", etc...

Thats what I am thinking.

So how will they named? And is it possible to pass the phrase "Layer" through the I18N. So that in german versions the "Layer" will named "Ebene" .?

Presumably you intend to add autonumbering at some point in the future so until then I'd go with "Layer" and keep it as simple as possible for now. (New Layer would be silly because as soon as you have created it, it aint new anymore.)

Better get them in ASAP. We're in a string freeze so this is prime time to do them.

FWIW, We also seem to have a hang on Win32 that needs to be worked out.

What I'm looking for is a name for the initial (bottom-most) layer in a new document, which is determined by the document template. So this would be what to put in the template.
But, hmm. I guess "Layer" makes quite a bit of sense actually. What do the rest of you think?

Not at this time. The document templates (from which this comes) are simply used raw. I'm not sure, long-term, what the best approach for internationalizing them is.

Okay, I bet someone will be able to fix this by tomorrow morning, so am going to leave it as a challenge.
Tomorrow morning let's plan on entering hard freeze, unless someone identifies a major show stopper between now and then.
If the bug *isn't* fixed by then, hopefully a patch can get worked up relatively quickly.
Meanwhile we can QA everything else, and by Saturday morning be able to tag and branch.

'Layer' sounds good and unambiguous to me. Any reason why it should not be used?

Dia follows gimp and calls the base layer "Background" and after all the other layers are called "New Layer" (no number increment, and I've been meaning to change the string to just 'Layer' for a while now).
Background might be confusing in Inkscape the way things are currently handled though (haven't thought about it in any great detail).

It's not so good once one has added another layer.
I prefer Bryce's "Base layer".
pjrm.
Yes but as this layer can not be hiden or locked, and because i liked the idea of "root layer", i would vote for plain "root"

I do not think that root is the most user friendly layer name.
Base Layer would be alright but Background would be better. "Background" would at least be consistant with Dia and the Gimp.

Can we reduce priority on the level 9 bugs to, say, level 8, and leave only freeze-stoppers at level 9? I'd like to know what is left to do before freeze.
