Hi all, Apparently, there is a policy to release binaries at the same time, instead of simply uploading them to Sourceforge whenever they become available. I would like to see this changed to the latter option. I see no point in why people on one platform would have to wait for binaries becoming available on the other.
Thanks for your consideration, Johan

IIRC the "policy" was to hold back on official release announcements until all the binaries were ready. No reason to wait to upload them. But if you announce a release and there aren't binaries for all of the supported platforms, crowd control gets to be a hassle.

The issue with the early upload though is that things start spreading in the twitterverse prior to announcements. I guess it's a pipe dream that we'd actually have useful stats for a release vs all of the automated scrapers tainting the stats.

Hello Johan,
if you comment on my push of the windows binary to sf, then I simply was not aware of this policy. Do you want me to remove this win32 installer from sf?
But the problem remains where to share binaries for testing?

Adib,
No it was due to a conversation from yesterday regarding what our standing policy has been.
Johan, here's what I'm talking about with the tainted stats... https://twitter.com/#!/softvillaru/status/183219531655815169 Posted to twitter already with 4 download links on their page, none of which point to SourceForge.
*sigh*
Honestly, testing can be handled by putting things in shared folders on various file sharing services such as SkyDrive or Dropbox and only privately giving links to people.
Cheers, Josh

On the contrary, thank you very much for getting it there! :)

Hi, I just downloaded and installed Inkscape-0.48.3.1-1.exe on Windows 7 (32 bit). The install went very smoothly, thanks for preparing and uploading it! The uninstall of the previous version, 0.48.2, was a bit unusual. In the middle of the uninstall, after deleting part of the \share\ subdirectories, I got the dreaded Windows message saying "Inkscape has stopped working", which is not very informative. The uninstall program spontaneously aborted here. The Control Panel indicated that Inkscape was no longer present, but there were a large number of files that had not yet been deleted, so I manually deleted them, and then re-installed uneventfully. The good news was that there were a few personal directories underneath \Inkscape\ that I left there just as a test and they survived the uninstall/reinstall so I was quite pleased, because I got into the habit of doing this a long time ago, and old habits die hard.
