Re: [Inkscape-devel] Circular Arrangement

You're right, the arrows are indeed a little bit confusing. As an alternative I could use the iconless buttons like in the blueprint. As an alternative I could put icons that somewhat resemble a bounding box. Example: http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=28549
Personally I really like your alternative icons! I wonder if the others agree?
Don't worry about those other possible features I mentioned, they're just questions I happened to have on my mind. I wasn't trying to imply that you actually had to code them.
Good luck with the project!

I agree. The one suggestion I have for Denis with them though is to outline the edges with white to help the icons stand out on darker Desktop themes.
I apparently forgot to comment on the actual proposal before, so I say it looks pretty good imho.
Cheers and good luck, Josh

I just wanted to leave this right here since it's very relevant to the overall goal.

I think that a similar tool will be very useful and interesting... I hope it will be realized...
...I think that another interesting tool to implement could be the "Paste Inside" tool, that was implemented in Freehand (Edit -> Specials -> Paste Inside) in a quite easy to use way, but not in Illustrator (or else in a more complex way). You can find some discussions around this tool over the web, for example at this link: http://www.gigposters.com/forums/digital/53073-freehand-paste-inside-vs-illu.... Or you can find a video (filmed using Illustrator) that show what's the "paste inside": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBmlIPuKEbY.
I use Inkscape since a few time under Windows Vista and, for now, I don't have bugs to report. It' s a very great software!!

Hello everybody,
I just wanted to point out that I started working on the code. You can find my branch on launchpad: https://code.launchpad.net/~declara91/+junk/inkscape_polar_arrangement. The only thing i've done however is implementing the anchor selection widget, in fact here's a screenshot: http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=29309.
I have still much to learn about the code, gtkmm and so on. I was also wondering if there are any plans for switching to gtkmm3 in the near future.
Denis

Awesome, I'll check out your branch and follow your work.

We are looking to be compatible with it soon, sure... but outright switching will not happen in the near future. To see what library versions we need to remain compatible with please see: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Tracking_Dependencies
If you can target 2.24 and avoid anything introduced after 2.22, you would be golden (with the bonus of your work already being 3.0 compatible).
