Hello,
I'm Romain, born in France. I'd like to contribute to this great project, so I just subscribed to translator and devel (I study computer science), and started working :)
I am working on translating fuzzy messages, and I found the message "Unclump tiled clones". I figured out that it was the message corresponding to undo pressing the "Unclump" button when making tiled clones.
But when I try this button, the clones become closer and closer, that's quite different from "spreading out", isn't it ? Did I miss something or is it a mistake in the implementation of the unclumping process ? Maybe I didn't understand what clumping is ?
Thanks for your help, Romain

Unclumping does not just spread out - it tries to equalize distances between objects, taking into account their shape and size (i.e. ideally, to equalize distances between the facing edges of the objects, although so far it's much more primitive than that ideal). This is not something that can be done deterministically by a single formula; it's an iterative process and the results are always imperfect. For an already regular tiling, unclumping just "shakes" the grid and makes it more natural. But create a highly irregular tiling with randomized positions, then press Unclump to see how it removes the "clumps" (hence the name) and makes the grid more even and natural, almost man-made, although still irregular. Here are some examples of unclumping at work:

Ok, my misunderstanding comes from there : I just tried with a regular tiling, and the "shaking" makes the tiles closer to eachother.

Welcome! One thing though - did you check with the last translator? matiphas has updated the translation, and it is in SVN since yesterday.
Oups, yes I should have talked to him before... But anyway, I checked on web SVN and updated my copy of the trunk, and matiphas' commit doesn't appear. Is there a delay to get the latest updates ?
The translation is correct, but when I made the checkout yesterday afternoon, it wasn't translated yet.

It's in the 0.45 branch, since that's what we want to ship :) But it probably should also be committed to trunk, indeed.
Cheers Colin

OK, changes are now available on trunk also. I've checked out the trunk as explained by the wiki, is it this version that I should use as a working copy ? What are the project policies concerning branches ?

If you want to work on translations as development goes on, then yes. However, if there is still something to do for the translations as they should appear in the upcoming 0.45 release (e.g. the tutorials), then you should get the 0.45 branch with
svn checkout https://inkscape.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/inkscape/inkscape/branches/RELE... inkscape-0.45-release-branch
(The tutorials' XML sources are in the doc-docbook module (outside of the branch), but the converted SVG tutorials reside in the inkscape module that is branched).
What are the project policies concerning branches ?
Each release gets its own branch, and there were some more branches in the past for experimentation (e.g. the Google summer of code work). These usually do not matter for translation work, as they get merged back into trunk if the experiment worked out.

Thank you for all these clarifications.

It is translated as
msgid "Unclump tiled clones" msgstr "Éparpiller les clones de pavage"
Is that wrong?
