I am new to Inkscape, but have been involved in some open source projects (mainly Java-ish stuff).
I downloaded the latest Windows release and tried it out. I am wondering if this is a known issue, since it is so badly broken. (Inkscape April 3 drop, Windows Vista)
I am trying to use a Wacom Bamboo tablet. Inkscape looks like it recognizes the tablet, but I can't seem to get it to work with the caligraphy tool. My tablet works with 0.47, after some fiddling.
Additionally, there are two GUIs for setting up input hardware now. The old one looks like 0.47, and the new one looks very cool, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it work. And keep in mind, it could be user error - I am new to Inkscape. But I am thinking that a Wacom Bamboo tablet should "just work" with a drawing application...
Sooooo... are the hardware input dialogs still "in-work"? If not, I'll be happy to provide details and screen shots. I just don't want to clutter your bug tracking system before checking.
Thanks!

Jon, what are your plans for this new dialog? Will it be switched off again before the release?
Specifically, what are the advantages of the new dialog? It seems like it looks undecipherable not only to me.

I believe there are some known issues with Wacom Bamboo on 0.47, but I have been able to work around them and get the pen interface working. However, on the latest drop, I am not able to get Inkscape to work with my pen, even using the older interface.
Is this a known issue? Should I write it up, given that a new hardware UI is in the works?
By the way, I love the interaction of the Wacom pen and the caligraphy tool. When I can get it to work, that is. :-)

One advantage is that it will give us a way to configure extended input devices... the old dialog is being deprecated in GTK and no new substitution that I am aware of is being added in it's place. Gimp 2.7.x series also now has a custom dialog for configuring tablets (they also have pressure curves available in it too, which would be nice to have in ours).
Cheers, Josh

That's the more complex, second tab.
Most of the work is about done for the first tab (that will do the actual settings). Some of the new code was already done in the older dialog to get the names work done, etc.
